چکیده

Abstract Infection of the urinary tract ranks as one most common infections affecting people worldwide and its treatment is made complicated by rising incidence antibiotic resistance. This study aimed to detect extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) genes resistance profile uropathogenic Escherichia coli ( E. ) recovered from patients attending a University Teaching hospital in Nigeria. Uropathogenic isolates were obtained culture collection Department Microbiology Parasitology for period four months (October 2019–January, 2020). Antibiotic susceptibility testing was done using disc diffusion method while phenotypic ESBL production detected double synergy test (DDST). Detection β-lactamase Real-Time PCR. Forty-nine 120 urine samples, with 24 (49%) being positive. The antibiotics producers was: ciprofloxacin (100%), cefotaxime cefpodoxime tetracycline (95.7%), ceftazidime (56.7%), amoxicillin-clavulanate (50%), gentamicin (33.3%), imipenem (0%). All carried bla TEM , CTX-M-1 CTX-M-9 75% (18/24) SHV CTX-M-2 CTX-M-8 CTX-M-25 groups 20.8% (5/24) isolates. There co-occurrence CTX-M, β-lactamases 79.2% (19/24) isolates, five (20.8%) co-harbored CTX-M . showed high level multidrug gene carriage this study, suggesting likely review therapeutic options UTI clamp down on cases

Molecular Characterization and Antimicrobial Resistance of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli

Background:Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are the most common infectious diseases in childhood. The Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains account for as much as 80% of UTIs. Objective:From a clinical perspective, it is important to know which virulence factors and antibiotic resistance properties are present in UPEC strains in pediatrics. Therefore, this study was carried out...

Biofilm and Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase Production amongst Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli Isolates at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria

Background and Aims: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are considered major reservoir for genes encoding antimicrobial resistance. The mechanism of resistance and persistence of UPEC has been attributed to the production of biofilm and Extended Beta Lactamase (ESBL). This hospital-based prospective study determined how biofilm and ESBL production facilitate antibacterial resistance amongst ...

Molecular characterization of AmpC-producing Escherichia coli clinical isolates recovered in a French hospital.

OBJECTIVES To characterize the AmpC-type beta-lactamases produced by Escherichia coli clinical isolates. METHODS E. coli isolates recovered in a French hospital in 2006 were selected on the basis of a resistance phenotype consistent with increased AmpC production. The presence of genes coding for plasmid-mediated cephalosporinases as well as the existence of mutations in the chromosome-borne ...

Antibiotic Sensitivity Patterns of Escherichia coli Isolated in Urine Samples of Patients Referred to Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital in Zanjan

Background & Objective: Escherichia coli (E. coli) is considered to be the most common cause of urinary tract infections (UTIs) worldwide. Due to the recent rise in bacterial resistance to antibiotics and the appearance of multidrug-resistant E. coli, treatment options have been significantly limited, thus increasing the cost of treatment as well as morbidity and mortality rates, especially in ...

Evaluation of Antibiotic Susceptibility of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp. Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections of Patients Attending a University Hospital in Tehran

Background and Objectives: E. coli and Klebsiella spp. are recognized as most prevalent bacteria causing urinary tract infection (UTI), the most common bacterial infection. Decreasing of antimicrobial susceptibility in urinary pathogens has made difficulty in treatment of UTI. The aim of this study was to determine antibiotic susceptibility of E. coli and Klebsiella spp. isolated from urine of ...
